There has been a lot happening in my life lately, so you’ll have to pardon my absence on here for a while!  I have missed blogging a lot more than I realized and am back to a more normal schedule.  While I’ve been juggling work-life balance and setting up my life as a single gal again, it just so happened that Mr. Giles’ 7th birthday came along.

It’s not a secret that Mr. Giles is a very special cat!  He’s my furry child, my constant companion, and he’s been a grounding rock in our home.  According to the vet’s handy chart, Giles is now 50 years old in human years and with that comes a suspect tooth.  I’ve got my eye on it, but if it gets bad he will have to have it extracted… and I’m quite sure that would make his annual bath feel like a day at the spa.

After he is dry, however, he is sooooo fluffy!!

I had a direct question via social media about how I am able to get my cat to pose for his annual birthday photo.  The answer is:  lots and lots and lots of outtakes!  As he gets older, he is much more chill and I think he’s just given up at this point.  Ha!  Sometimes kitties just have to go with Mom’s plans, eh?

Ok, so what’s going on over here with me?  Aside from personal life changes, I’ve been working a lot of hours in my library career, and regrouping back to the life I planned but wasn’t able to grow for a little while.  I also have a nice treat coming up.  It’s my annual visit to SXSW!   I love SXSW Interactive because it is a thinkers, movers, and shakers conference (see last year’s roundup here and here).  I always come away with amazing new ideas and I get to witness some seriously awesome business ideas & thinkers/leaders in action.  I’ll post lots of Instagrams, I’m sure!

And while I’m at SXSW, my lovely Lizzy is getting her annual servicing so that I can get back to sewing up a mega storm, which I have missed SO FREAKIN’ MUCH. I worked on some UFO projects before SXSW started this week (finishing stuff feels amazeballs!) and I have some pretty awesome plans post-SXSW for new clothes in my wardrobe and new home projects (ahem, Roman shades).  In-progress is McCall’s 6844, a peplum cardigan.

Just recently, I realized that I bought a fixer upper house last year on my birthday… and that “fixer upper” is a real thing.  (Sometimes I am slow to realize things… Insert bad blonde joke here.)  After upgrading a series of infrastructure elements for many months and many dollars (air conditioning system, hot water heater, new flooring, among others), the projects on the top of my list now are more aesthetic.  I always research each project and have learned from the glorious world of the DIY interwebs that I can do most of this *all on my own*.  (!!!)

I’ve realized that I am not just a seamstress or a crafter… I am a DIY maker!  I have recently purchased my first miter saw and nail gun.  Dude.  This is getting real.  I am newly obsessed with HGTV, particularly shows like Fixer Upper, Property Brothers, and Rehab Addict.  It’s still a little weird that I’m allowed to do ANYTHING to my home… after an adult lifetime spent in apartments, I’m able to unleash a new side of my maker-self!  I’m really anxious to get back to the core of why I started blogging in the first place.  So I’m hoping the rest of 2015 bring us all a lovely record of all the things I made, fixed, and refurbished.
